Welcome to Kindergarten!
Liz McCaw, my fellow Kindergarten teacher, and I are going electronic! Mrs. McCaw and I, along with other Cinnabar teachers, are involved in an exciting project to implement technology in the classroom. Last year, our classroom got an Elmo (which is a terrific teaching tool, not a Muppet). An Elmo is like the old-school overhead projectors, but it projects items that are not translucent. We use the Elmo during writing, art, reading, math and story-telling. There are so many great ways to use the Elmo, I don't think I have even scratched the surface. This year, SD68 has a new project underway where schools can use, on loan, a class set of ipod Touches. There are so many great applications on the ipods and we will be playing on them as often as we can! We can also capture images, audio and video on the ipod and we will be using this data to create e-portfolios for each student. An e-portfolio is a collection of electronic data assembled to provide a record of your child's learning. Unlike a typical report card, although this is not a replacement, you are able to see examples of your child's learning. I am really excited to be able to communicate your child's progress with you this way.
