Parent Sign-up

Thanks to the parents who have signed up and helped in the classroom already. There is always room for more help, so please sign-up and spend a few minutes in your child's class. We can have more than one volunteer per day, so don't let a full space dissuade you. You'll find the sign-up sheet on the Kindergarten door.

Family Read

What a great way to start our mornings! Thanks to all of the family members who have had the chance to stay a few extra minutes in the morning and read with their kids (and a few other kids too). I have really enjoyed having everyone in the class and it is a great way for the students to start their day. Thanks again!

Pajama Day!

On Friday, November 18th the Kindergarten 2 class will be getting cosy and wearing our pjs to school. Bring your house coat, blanket, slippers or stuffy- anything to make you feel like you never got out of bed!

E-Portfolios in Kindergarten

Our amazing staff at Cinnabar Valley Elementary are collaborating to create student e-portfolios this year. My hope is that this blog will become a part of the project and provide access for families to view the kindergarten e-portfolios and share my learning journey. The E-porfolio will reflect the student's work in one area only. Because my students love Math (as do I),  we will use this curriculum area for the e-portfolio.

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Liz McCaw, my fellow Kindergarten teacher, and I are going electronic! Mrs. McCaw and I, along with other Cinnabar teachers, are involved in an exciting project to implement technology in the classroom. Last year, our classroom got an Elmo (which is a terrific teaching tool, not a Muppet). An Elmo is like the old-school overhead projectors, but it projects items that are not translucent. We use the Elmo during writing, art, reading, math and story-telling. There are so many great ways to use the Elmo, I don't think I have even scratched the surface. This year, SD68 has a new project underway where schools can use, on loan, a class set of ipod Touches. There are so many great applications on the ipods and we will be playing on them as often as we can! We can also capture images, audio and video on the ipod and we will be using this data to create e-portfolios for each student. An e-portfolio is a collection of electronic data assembled to provide a  record of your child's learning. Unlike a typical report card, although this is not a replacement, you are able to see examples of your child's learning. I am really excited to be able to communicate your child's progress with you this way.
